Vera J. (Riker) Thompson, 90, Carlsbad, New Mexico and formerly of the Oblong, Illinois area passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at Landsun Health Service Center, Carlsbad, New Mexico.
Born in Oblong, Illinois on July 13, 1920, she was the daughter of James Alva Edison Riker and Lou Ella (Bond) Riker. She was employed with the Hobbs Credit Union, Hobbs, New Mexico. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Hobbs, New Mexico. Vera moved to Hobbs, New Mexico to raise her family and work there. Three years ago she moved to Carlsbad to be closer to her family.
On October 30, 1938, she married George Edward Thompson, who preceded her in death on October 28, 2003. Also preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, David and Keith Riker; an infant sister, Alvena Riker and a sister-in-law, Rita Riker.
Vera is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Ruby & George Waller; a son and daughter-in-law, Sidney & Sharon Thompson; four grandchildren, Jennifer & Perry Villalpando, Bruce Thompson, Randy Buhalts and Scott Thompson; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Cecil & Lavina Riker and Max Riker; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Cora & Chuck Ruddell and Mary & Roy Tracy; a sister-in-law, Eleanor Riker and several nieces and nephews.
Burial will be in Shire Cemetery
